An antique porcelain fairing figurine of a bear pushing a cart with three bear cubs inside. The cart wheels have a shamrock insert. On the front of the cart are the words "The Whole Dam Family".
This is probably in reference to a fictitious comedy family that was extremely popular in the early 20th Century -- "The Whole Dam Family and the Dam Dog" featured on postcards, posters, a Vaudeville sketch, an Edison silent motion picture and more. Family members were named
Mr. and Mrs. I. B. Dam, Miss U. B. Dam and so on.
The figurine measures about 4 1/2" X 4" X 2"
Probably made around 1905 in Germany. It is not marked.
White porcelain with overpainting of green, gray, pink and gold.
This comical piece is in great antique condition with no chips or cracks.
