A vintage covered powder box made of celluloid-- also referred to as French Ivory.
Celluloid was an early form of plastic made to resemble real ivory. It was in popular use from the late 1800's to about 1940's to make many household items ranging from buttons to utensil handles to dresser top vanity sets.
This unmarked box measures about 4 3/4" wide at the base X 2 1/4" tall including the lid and feet.
The top is hand carved with two stemmed flowers in an Art Nouveau style.
There are a few very faint tiny stains on the bottom, not unusual for this material. This powder box is in very, nice vintage condition with no chips or cracks.
The hand carving is an especially nice addition to the piece.
Thanks for looking.
